iGaming Link Building: Editorial Outreach and Quality Checks

Link building for an iGaming website starts with a useful page and a clear reason for another publisher to reference it. A large backlink count alone does not show whether those links help readers or support a relevant audience. For operators, the practical task is to review the publication, the destination page and the terms of any placement before agreeing to it.

Separate editorial coverage from paid placements

An editorial link is a publisher’s choice to reference material that helps its readers. A sponsorship is a commercial arrangement. Keep that distinction clear in your brief and reporting. Google’s link spam policies prohibit buying or selling links to manipulate rankings, excessive link exchanges and automated link creation.

For paid placements, ask the publisher to qualify the link appropriately. Google recommends rel="sponsored" for advertisements and paid placements; nofollow is also acceptable. Disclosure text alone is not a substitute for the link attribute. See Google’s outbound-link guidance. These search guidelines do not establish whether a campaign meets the rules of a particular market.

Review a potential publication before outreach

  • Audience fit: identify who reads the publication and why your proposed resource would be useful to them.
  • Editorial quality: read recent articles, check whether sources are identified and look for a consistent subject focus.
  • Placement terms: record whether the opportunity is editorial or paid, who controls the wording and how links will be labelled.
  • Destination: choose the page that answers the reader’s next question. Check that it loads, works on mobile and explains its subject accurately.
  • Claims: verify any operator credentials, permissions, statistics or partnership statements with the owner before publication. Do not imply that a regulator endorses your business.

Third-party authority scores can help organize research, but they should not replace a review of the actual page and audience. Avoid providers whose main promise is a fixed number of ranking-passing links or guaranteed positions.

Create something worth referencing

Choose material your team can support with real information: a documented technical walkthrough, an original comparison with a stated method, or an explanation of a common implementation problem. State who prepared it and when it was checked. Do not invent customer results, awards or research figures to make a pitch stronger.

For a match-streaming project, a useful resource could explain how an operator distinguishes match video signals from schedule data and optional livescores. Show the actual product flow and clarify which details require consultation. A relevant reference to such a resource is more useful than inserting an unrelated casino keyword into a generic article.

Use a concise outreach brief

Prepare these details before contacting a publication:

  1. The specific reader question your resource answers.
  2. The destination URL and the original evidence it contains.
  3. Why it fits an existing article or an identified editorial topic.
  4. Any commercial relationship that needs disclosure.
  5. The person responsible for checking factual claims and responding to corrections.

Let the publisher decide whether a reference belongs in its article. Avoid requiring exact-match anchor text or a reciprocal link as a condition of participation. Keep a record of the agreed wording and placement terms.

Measure the outcome beyond link count

Maintain a log of source URLs, destination URLs, publication dates, commercial terms and link attributes. Check referral visits and relevant enquiries where analytics consent and tracking allow. Separately review Search Console impressions, clicks and queries for the destination page over comparable periods.

A traffic change after a placement does not prove the link caused it. Content changes, technical fixes and demand can affect the same period. Investigate an unusual pattern before taking action; a traffic spike by itself is not evidence of a Google manual action.
